Clinical Trial
A structured research study conducted in human participants to evaluate the safety, dosing, efficacy, or side effect profile of a medical intervention.
Clinical trials are organized into phases: Phase I focuses on safety and dosing in a small group, Phase II examines efficacy and side effects in a larger group, Phase III tests the intervention against standard treatments in thousands of patients, and Phase IV occurs after approval as ongoing surveillance. Most research peptides have only preclinical data (animal studies) and have not completed human clinical trials.
The absence of clinical trial data is a key reason many peptides carry “research use only” designations. Researchers and users of peptide compounds should understand that preclinical results, while promising, do not guarantee the same outcomes in humans. Clinical trial status for a given compound is a critical factor in assessing its evidence base.
