Glossary

Anabolic

Relating to the metabolic process of building and synthesizing complex molecules — particularly promoting muscle tissue growth, protein synthesis, and recovery.

Also known as: anabolism anabolic effect

Anabolic processes are the constructive side of metabolism — the body building new structures from smaller components. In the context of peptides and research compounds, “anabolic” typically refers to compounds that stimulate muscle protein synthesis, increase IGF-1, promote nitrogen retention, or otherwise support lean tissue growth.

Anabolic is often contrasted with catabolic (tissue breakdown). Growth hormone secretagogues (GHRPs, GHRHs) are considered indirectly anabolic through their stimulation of GH and downstream IGF-1 elevation. The term is descriptive of mechanism, not a regulatory classification.
