Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide derived from tuftsin (a naturally occurring immunomodulatory tetrapeptide Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension that enhances metabolic stability and CNS penetration. Developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, it was approved in Russia for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and neurasthenia. Selank provides anxiolytic effects comparable to benzodiazepines but without sedation, cognitive impairment, or addiction potential.
